Lockheed predecessor begins as the Alco-Hydro Aeroplane Company

Brothers Allan and Malcolm Loughead incorporated the Alco-Hydro Aeroplane Company to develop and operate their Model G hydro-aeroplane. The predecessor venture initially sought to demonstrate the aircraft and earn revenue by carrying passengers; the brothers later adopted the Lockheed spelling.

March 15, 1995

Lockheed and Martin Marietta complete their “merger of equals”

Lockheed Martin Corporation was created to combine the businesses of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation. The stockholder-approved combination closed on March 15, 1995, uniting two of the largest U.S. defense contractors; Daniel M. Tellep and Norman R. Augustine led the predecessor companies through the transaction.
